NEW Swine Flu and Correctional Security

While the extent of the Swine Flu / H1N1 Virus, is still unknown, those of us in the field of corrections need to begin implementing our policies for Pandemic and/or non-emergency medical events. Some of the steps that I am recommending you take immediately are what I would do if I were operating an agency or institution. I am approaching this from a security-operations standpoint, not from a medical or political standpoint. Operating corrections, detention and juvenile facilities requires us, at times, to take preemptive actions to ward-off problems. Mitigating the effects of contagious flu is, I believe, one of those times... full story

Methods Of Attack

by Tracy E. Barnhart

I am a big advocate of continuing education on job specific areas throughout your career. The type of information I attempt to give my students is what they can use that night or their next shift. Logbooks

Shakey: We just started using our computers [for logbooks] Sunday 5/2/09 at a RiCI here in Ohio. We have been training for the use of it for a while, so far it’s not that bad. But it looks like a bear now that conduct and incident reports are to be done on it also.

Mudflap: We haven’t started using the computers yet. As may be common all over the world, we don’t always have forms available. So when we’re seeking some form to fill out (whether it’s a ticket, an overtime sheet, or whatever) we’re told that we can get them off the computer. But few of us have access to a printer to get a form ‘coz the system isn’t fully set up yet. Does everyone who is now using the computer for logbooks have printer access? full thread
