Prison system looks at stop gaps to reduce violence |

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Department of Corrections currently is in mediation on how to fix problems relating to its mental health care, while violence is still a major problem behind prison walls. In an exclusive sit-down interview, DOC commissioner Jeff Dunn talked about what is being done to reduce violence. “The fact is we need to continue to work hard to create a system in which violence is an abnormality not the normality. It’s out of the norm and not the norm, and we struggle with that today,” Dunn said. Last month, a federal judge ruled the prison system’s mental health care was unconstitutional.
