Description: NOW HIRING! Position: Programs Director /Correctional Mental Health Counselor Hours: Full-time (40) Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Occasional weekends) Salary: $60,000-$66,000 per year PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent, the Programs Director/Correctional Mental Health Counselor is responsible for screening and assessment of inmates, providing group psycho-educational programs, group and individual therapy. making recommendations with regards to psychiatric hospitalizations, providing mental health referrals to medical providers, development of treatment plans and inmate programs. and discharge planning in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures and with the utmost confidential and professional manner. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS 1. To oversee the Program Department to include volunteers and staff. The Program Director will also continually evaluate programs and a formal evaluation of staff at least once a year. 2. Provide initial mental health screenings in accordance with AC A standards and Carroll Country House of Corrections policy. 3. Provide psycho-educational programs including. but not limited to. substance abuse and anger management programs. 4. Provide mental health assessments as part of medical screening process and make appropriate referrals for medication assessment. 5. As directed, develop and implement therapeutic programs for inmates. 6. Assist with the implementation and tracking of offender data related to mental health programs. 7. As directed, assist in the application process for grants specific to correctional mental health. 8. Provides education and assistance to inmates through therapeutic interactions. helps to resolve interpersonal conflict. 9. Maintains inmate information including files and reports related to the department upholding all state and federal requirements. 10. Provide treatment in group and individual formats. 11. As directed provide mental health trainings to correctional staff. 12. Provide recommendations to correctional staff with regards to managing and treatment of inmates' high-risk behaviors. 13. Administer and interpret assessment tools as needed. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS 1. Communicate with community mental health and medical providers as needed. 2. Communicate with other corrections based mental health providers as needed. 3. Participate in employee screenings as requested. 4. Maintain current knowledge of trends and practices in the field through peer association, attendance at seminars, study and review of literature REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the primary functions of the job. • Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the Carroll County House of Corrections principles, policies and procedures. • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the both correctional staff and inmates. • Ability to express or exchange ideas verbally and in writing. • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication. • Ability to prepare written materials and analyze data. • Ability to use computer keyboard requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. • Ability to plan and perform diverse duties requiring extensive knowledge of a particular field and the use of a wide range of procedures. • Ability to exercise judgment in the analysis of facts or conditions regarding individual problems to determine what actions should be taken, within the limits of standard practice. • Ability to retain confidential information pertaining to mental health, medical. and correctional issues. • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected issues. • Ability to balance treatment needs with safety and security within a controlled environment. • Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or excessive stress. • Requires performing regular job functions under good conditions in a safe working environment. • Requires sedentary work. including continuous sitting or occasional standing and walking. WORK SCHEDULE Generally, Monday through Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Occasional weekend and evenings QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION; Position requires a current Master's level clinical license such as LCMHC. LICSW. or MLADC. Dually licensed as a MLADC and LCMHC /LICSW preferred. Must have a minimum of two years providing emergency services and be familiar with lnvoluntary Emergency Admission procedures. Ability to work with dually diagnosed clients. Experience working with resistant population. Must have experience in both working with groups and individuals. Experience working in a correctional setting strongly preferred.
