Description: | Job Objectives: Perform prompt and legal service of court documents, including summonses, subpoenas and garnishments, restraining orders, executions and replevins, writs, “protection from abuse” orders and forcible ejections orders. Additionally, serve orders, warrants and writs, which legally require the sheriff to seize cash, personal property and real estate. Conduct foreclosure sales on property and tax sales. Essential Job Functions: Properly execute a wide variety of summonses, subpoenas, garnishments and other legal court orders in a dignified and professional manner. Accomplish assignments impartially and with a thorough knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to serving legal process. Confer with attorneys and court officials as necessary to accomplish timely and accurate services. Maintain a personal logbook of the documents, dates, types of service and individuals contacted. Provide input, as necessary, to improve the overall system. Determine most appropriate and cost-effective manner of minimum service that the document requires. Use of reference materials, department and Internet databases as additional tools to locate person to be served. Minimize altercations with recipients and diffuse hostile environments whenever possible. |
Special Instructions: | Job Standards: Minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Shall be a US citizen and at least 18 years of age. Shall be screened for a record of criminal activity and criminal history using a named-based record check before employment is offered or before job duties are assigned that might expose them to KCJIS-sensitive information. Shall be screened for a record of criminal activity and criminal history using a fingerprint-based check within 30 days after initial employment or assignment and before unconditional employment is offered.
