MOORESVILLE, NC — An Iredell County inmate in a holding cell at the county's detention center has been charged with felony assault after a melee in a holding cell left one officer with a fractured leg bone and another with an injured thumb, Iredell County Sheriff's Office said.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. Jan. 6 when the inmate, identified as Khaleel Mangum, 22, of Charlotte, "began causing a disturbance within the holding cell he was in," according to a statement by ICSO.
"Mangum had been moved to the holding cell to maintain security in the facility due to previous incidents involving him," ICSO said.
