WINDHAM (WGME) -- Maine inmates, addicted to drugs, are getting the chance to make a fresh start thanks to a pilot program inside the state's prison system.
The program is called Medication Assisted Treatment, also known as MAT, and the Maine Department of Corrections has been offering it to certain inmates for the past three months as part of the pilot program.
Inmates with an opioid use disorder that are 90 days from their release date have the opportunity to choose a medication that will help them get off the drugs.
