Did 4 years myself.. Worked for the state DOC for 3 years. Just got hired by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. I would definately recomment BOP. Your active duty time counts towards your retirement. |

First of all I thank you for your service in the Marines. Mick is right: “be yourself”. Also take the time to read about the different agencies, institutions, benefits, unions etc. Find out what jobs are out there and what they will offer you. You can be sure that you are not only needed in Davidson County Tenn. Your’e needed all over the country! Good Luck and Stay Safe! |

I assume that you are considering a career in Corrections. The Best advice I can give you is just be yourself. Never be afraid to ask questions. As I always tell the Rookies that there is no such thing as a Stupid Question if it is asked honestly.(And remember you will be a Rookie). The environment you will be entering is unique in LE. Where as the Police only have to deal with a criminal for a few hours we in Corrections have them for years. The Job is as much physiological as physical. So it can be stressful for some. But if you settle in the Job you will love it. |
